Festival Welcome

Martin_Denny

Windsor Festival provides an opportunity to enjoy and take part in cultural events, and to be reminded of how wonderful it is to live and work in this part of the world.

The programme is broader and more eclectic this year, and does, I hope, provide you all with something that you will wish to come and see. The Festival opens with a Saturday afternoon family picnic at Cumberland Lodge, with entertainment from the National Youth Jazz Orchestra as the last vestiges of summer fade away. The focus then moves to Windsor Castle for concerts by London Mozart Players, The Choir of St George’s Chapel, Sir John Tomlinson, The Orchestra of the Yehudi Menuhin School and Yuki Ito, winner of this year’s International String Competition who will play Dvorak’s Cello Concerto with the Philharmonia in the Waterloo Chamber. In the second week Windsor Festival at the Theatre Royal will play host to Patricia Routledge, Piers Lane, Michael Morpurgo, London Festival Opera, Kit Hesketh Harvey, Eric Knowles, The Quotes and The Humphrey Lyttelton Band.

We remain grateful to our sponsors, benefactors and all those who support us financially or otherwise – it is they who, together with the audience, enable the Festival to happen and to provide an interesting and engaging programme. We are particularly delighted that Nintendo has come on board this year as Festival Partner, and we look forward to developing our partnership with them. We are also glad to be working now with The Arts Desk and BBC Radio Berkshire as media partners, and we are grateful for their support.

As we look ahead to next year, when we will celebrate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and the country will host the Olympic Games, the Festival reminds us of the rich history that surrounds us, and the opportunities we have for being a part of significant events today.

I do hope you will enjoy looking at the events listed and I look forward to welcoming you to the Festival. In the meantime the Festival will be in Daniel Department Stores in Peascod Street on the morning of Saturday 10th September, where you can come and find out more about us, and listen to the music.
