Venues : Windsor Castle : Albert Memorial Chapel

The richly decorated interior of the Albert Memorial Chapel was created by Giles Gilbert Scott for Queen Victoria in 1863 – 73 to commemorate her husband Albert, the Prince Consort, who died in 1861 at the early age of 42. The building chosen by the queen for this purpose had stood for nearly four centuries, having been constructed as a Lady Chapel for the new St George’s Chapel. Illustrated panels of marble, depicting scenes from Scripture line the walls. Above each panel is a sculptured head by Susan Durant portraying one of Queen Victoria’s children, set in a floral design.
