Participatory Programme for Senior Schools

The Festival once again presents its participatory programme for senior schools in the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, with over 350 entries in 2006. The programme continues to encourage artistic creativity in young people within the Royal Borough. This year the Festival will stage an exhibition of submitted works in the new Grandstand at Ascot Racecourse during the weekend of 28th - 30th September 2007. The exhibition will be open to the public and free for all those who submit work to the Festival.

The Festival invites submissions from Years 10, 11 and 12 (approximately those aged from 14 - 17 years old) in four categories:

  • Music Composition
  • Creative Writing (poetry and prose)
  • Two-dimensional art (painting, photography, printing and drawing)
  • Three-dimensional art (sculpture, textiles, ceramics, and design and technology)

Each category will be judged by a panel of three judges, who will select works for exhibiting in the Festival and will award first, second and third place prizes. Prize money will be awarded to individual prize winners as well as their school.

The judges for 2007 are as follows:

Music Composition: Gillian Dibden, John Lubbock, Francis Shaw
Creative Writing: Maggie Fergusson, Fraser Jansen, Canon John White
Two-dimensional art: Deborah James, Theo Platt, Lady Roberts
Three-dimensional art: Philip Jackson, Glenys Latham A representative from Edexcel

Workshops will be run in conjunction with the programme during 2007: Norden Farm, Maidenhead, 22nd September 2007 2.30 - 5.30pm. 2D workshop run by professional artist Rose Shawe-Taylor open to years 10 and 11. Eton College Drawing Schools, Winter term 2007. Live drawing classes open to year 12 students intending to embark on an Art Foundation Course.
