John Suchet - Beethoven The Last Master

with pianist Bernard Lanskey

Saturday 27th September, 3pm - Concert Hall, Music Schools, Eton College

A story as immortal as the music itself: comedy, drama and music as the world of Ludwig van Beethoven comes vividly to life.

Everybody knows something about Beethoven, even if it is only that he went deaf. John Suchet will take you on a tour of the life, times and music of one of the greatest geniuses. Live music enhances John’s inspiring performance as he brings Beethoven to life.

You will learn where Beethoven used to eat and drink, how his laundry was done and how his wide circle of friends looked after him so that he could concentrate on his art.You will be with Beethoven on his fruitless attempt to gain a wife and John will take you with him on his research trips to Beethoven’s favourite tavern.

"This book is not for academics but for you and me and anyone moved by Beethoven’s music, and will probably do more to further the understanding of the composer than any professorial paper." The Daily Telegraph

John Suchet is one of the country’s best known television newscasters. Before becoming a newscaster John was a reporter for ITN, covering major events around the world, including Iran, Afghanistan, the Middle East, India, Pakistan and Africa. He was Washington correspondent from 1981- 1983. In 1986 he was voted TV journalist of the year by the Royal Television Society for his coverage of the revolution in the Philippines.
