Angata
Sunday 21st September, 11:00am - Windsor Royal Station
Angata’s interests in West African music
brought them together three years ago.
The individual members come from a
diverse educational background, ranging
from studying music and West African
traditions to live theatre and fine art. The foundation of
Angata's set is the Malinke music found today in Mali and
Guinea. They have learnt these traditional rhythms from well-known
master percussionists such as Francois Dembele,
Lamine Lopez Sumah, Mamady Keita and Sega Sidibe. With
respect to the Malinke tradition, Angata fuses new
arrangements and melodic compositions to these old rhythms.
The group has performed at Notting Hill Carnival,Womad
Festival and The Edinburgh Festival.
Presented in association with Live Music Now! This performance
has been made possible by a grant from The Prince Philip Trust
Fund for the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.
