London Festival Opera

Although King George III and his son (The Prince of Wales, later Prince Regent and King George IV) had considerable disagreements throughout their relationship, they did share a significant love of music. The elder monarch preferred the traditional Handel, whereas the more up-to-date King George IV favoured the modern trends of Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven and, latterly Rossini. In the first part of the evening the performance will explore the two Kings’ shared love of music, whilst illuminating their differences as men. The second half will feature popular arias and ensembles from the world of romantic opera, including Verdi, Puccini, Bizet, and also lighter repertoire from the realm of operetta. The artists will appear in authentic Regency evening dress creating the atmosphere and grandeur of past times and accompaniment will be a select chamber ensemble.
